Massimiliano Meddi

Graduated from the three-year course in Composition with a musicological specialization, at the "G. Verdi" Conservatory in Milan. After the first musical recording, dated 1990, follows a very hard and deep solitary apprenticeship as a "one man band" conducted between home studio and professional recording studio, which culminates with my participation in the semifinals of the 1999 Castrocaro Festival, as a singer-songwriter. From 2000 to 2007 the decidedly higher peculiarities, compared to the objectives of the nineties, traceable in the qualitative fabric of the technical language of sound direction, combined with a refined search for the "scenic word", see the birth of musical projects intended for ballets and incidental music. From 2008 I will resume the genre of Italian pop music, but in my own way, expanding what were the foundations laid in the 90's, ranging from fusion to progressive rock settings. Some works will again be based on the model of previous theater projects, with extensive spoken recitatives, as in two works from 2017 and 2018. My compositional tendency has always been the same since the beginning; consists in the assiduous search for the obsolete word that has characteristics in common with the scenic word. Right from the very title of a song, I am interested in finding ways of verbal exposition that embody the message and the true climate inherent in a theme to be told. My vocals are naturally inclined towards the rock genre, although I have experimented with several lyrical overdubs during the realization of the projects for the scenes (period 2002-2003). All these experiences are summarized in my latest work "Hammer Hurricane" (s.i.a.e. 2020) in which the obsolete word and the dissonant harmonies close to free-jazz gestures, offer a solid sound and aesthetic image. The search for the element that makes a thematic message unique has been the goal I have set myself since 2000: "music is made for the ear" - as Michel de Saint-Lambert argued in the eighteenth century - a mistake that does not offend it is not a mistake".
