Niu, stage name of Francesco Sanniu, is a Sardinian singer-songwriter born in Carloforte. His pseudonym derives from the dialect word meaning "nest": an intimate and protected refuge in which his most personal songs take shape. At the age of eighteen, in 1999, he left the island of San Pietro to move to Rome, the city where he still lives and creates today. That journey generated a fracture that has never been completely healed: on the one hand, the deep roots, the visceral sense of belonging to the sea and the cliffs of Sardinia; on the other hand, the chosen city, which raised him as a man and as an artist. This double life, this constant oscillation between salt and asphalt, is the emotional core of his music. On April 10, 2026, Latitude 99, her most intimate single so far, was released. Self-produced and recorded entirely within the walls of his home in Carloforte and Rome, the song is an invitation to enter his "nest". With rarefied and almost dreamlike atmospheres, Latitude 99 tells of fading memories, time passing inexorably and affections resisting in silence. It is a poetic reflection on leaving the island at dawn, on the sweet weight of nostalgia and on the coordinates of an existence suspended between two worlds. With a sincere, minimalist and deeply emotional songwriting style, Niu continues to carve out a personal space for himself in the Italian indie scene, giving voice to those feelings that often remain unexpressed.
